Nowadays, even the smallest company uses the Internet as a main tool in building a customer base, keeping in contact with their clients and this is also their most basic means of advertising.

Designing a company website is cheap and effective, not to mention essential because the world wide web is the only medium that offers instantaneous information access to millions of users around the globe.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the key towards building an effective website that would get a lot of hits and visitors. A website that nobody visits is useless so the challenge lies in leading Internet users to visit your website.

Thus, your website need to be “found” when users type in keywords in search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, Altavista, AOL and others.

Once a keyword relating to the products or services that you offer is keyed into a search engine, a direct link to your website should emerge on top of the list.

You should employ search engine optimization techniques to lead traffic your way, and get more hits that would later on lead to more profit for your company, which is your goal in the first place.

Nice template - a very peaceful, soothing look. Can you comment more on how to design an appropriate template to meet the needs of different types of viewers(young vs. old, type of business, tech savy vs. basic user)?

Well, first you’ll need to know what you AND your target audience like for a website design. You’ll need to type in ‘your industry keyword’ into the Search Engine like Google and explore what types of sites that you like.

Ideally, however, you should ask YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS (or hire some of them) to view ‘your industry’ types of site and see what site they like and how they interact with the site (e.g. site usability). *Note: you can hire some firms to do this for you if you have the budget, but if you are on a limited budget, just get a few ‘very’ targeted group of customers and ask them to see which site/which parts of the site they like, etc.

Then, look to hire some professional designer, preferably someone who had already done similar site design that your audience likes — if you have the budget.

Anyway, hope that help. I’m an online marketer/businessman turned designer myself. This is kind of my evolution path (as I finally decided to do my own design etc because I couldn’t find any design that fits my ‘optimization + perfect’ standard =) :

Online Marketer => Search Engine Optimizer => Designer => Human => MonKey =P something you don’t want to know…
